John Bowne High School is a school of excellence and we strive to maintain it. We are proud of all of our accomplishments. We value RESPECT. At all times, we must respect each other, our school, and our community. We will work together to maintain a safe learning environment as we continue to strive for excellence. In order to maintain a learning environment that is safe and secure, we must adhere to rules and regulations.
- All students must adhere to all of the Chancellor's Regulations regarding safety and security.
- ALL STUDENTS MUST ENTER THROUGH THE MAIN ENTRANCE on Main Street.
- ALL STUDENTS MUST PRESENT THEIR PICTURE IDENTIFICATION CARDS issued by John Bowne to enter the building. ALL STUDENTS MUST swipe their ID cards at the CAASS machines upon entering the building.
- ALL STUDENTS MUST CARRY THEIR PROGRAM AND ID CARDS with them at all times. When asked by any adult around the building to produce your program and ID cards, you must comply in a very cooperative manner.
- Fighting is not and will not be tolerated here at John Bowne High School. If you have a problem or think you may have a problem, tell a dean, your guidance counselor, a SSA or any adult around the building.
- ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING., i.e., CELLPHONES, IPODS, MP3s, PSPs, and other electronic devices. The school will confiscate these devices and a parent will have to come to the school to retrieve them.
- Laser pointers and weapons are not permitted in the school building.
- HATS, CAPS, DO-RAGS, BANDANAS, HEADBANDS OR SCARVES used as head covering (except for religious purposes - a signed note by a parent must be submitted to Ms. Dwarka - AP Security) are NOT permitted in the building. Before entering the school building, you must remove all head coverings. Violators of this rule will have head coverings confiscated and returned at the end of the school term.
- Exits are not to be opened to allow friends or uninvited guests into the building. This intrusion can result in endangering our safety. Side doors must be kept locked at all times for our mutual safety.
- Students who have classes in the transportable must use Exits 7/8 only.
- It is very important to attend all your classes. Attendance is mandatory. Good attendance is rewarded. If you are absent, you must bring in a note from your parent/guardian stating the reason you were absent and have it signed by each of your subject teacher. After the note is signed by all of your subject teachers, take it to the attendance office, Room 115.
- Being on time to class is essential to passing your classes here at John Bowne. All students are expected to be in their classes before the late bell rings. If you are late to class, you must give your teacher a late pass. If you do not have a late pass, you will be deemed as cutting your class and will be taken to the detention center.
- All students are responsible for securing personal belongings and valuables. Valuable jewelry and clothing should not be worn to school.
- IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE DO NOT ANNOY OUR NEIGHBORS OR CONGREGATE ON OUR NEIGHBORS PROPERTY . The police will enforce loitering laws and quality of life throughout the community. Respect our neighbors and their properties.
- FOOD IS NEVER TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE CAFETERIA . Students must not bring food or drink to class. Only bag lunch may be eaten in the science lab.
- Bottled drinks (especially glass bottles) are not allowed in school.
- Gambling is prohibited in and around the school building. Students are not to be engaged in card playing, dice or any games of chance. Violators will be subjected to suspension.
- Students are forbidden to run in the hallways and/or stairwells. Running will lead to student suspension.
- No skateboards, roller blades, roller skates or scooters are permitted in the building.
- All students must adhere to the lawful authority of School Safety/NYPD as well as all school personnel.
Failure to comply with the above Department of Education Code of Behavior will result in disciplinary action.
